Richards nets four as Timbers rout Spokane 9-0 Richards nets four as Timbers rout Spokane 9-0 The Timbers U-23's would take no prisoners on Friday night at Tigard High School as they hosted the Spokane Spiders, and after a quiet first 20 minute, the Timbers lit up the scoreboard for nine goals and a 9-0 win that takes them to a perfect 11-0-0 on the season. Brent Richards had a had trick by halftime, and added a fourth less than a minute into the second half, while Ricky Dorrego had two goals, and Brian Ramsey, Bim Ogunyemi, and Freddie Braun also scored. The Timbers had the first scoring chance of the game, in the third minute when Bim Ogunyemi's blast from 15 yards out was just wide left, but the first serious scoring threat would come from the visitors in the 10th minute, when Thomas Ostrander cut diagonally across the top of the box, and has blast forced a save from Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson. In the 15th and 16th minute the Timbers would miss just past the left post then the right on headers from Brian Ramsey and Graham Dugoni, but the Timbers would break through in the 21st minute when Brock Granger and Ogunyemi worked a nice give and go down the left side, with Ogunyemi making a deep run to the left corner, and his cross to the far post was headed home by Brent Richards, and the Timbers had a 1-0 lead. One minute later, another cross from Ogunyemi nearly was deflected into the goal off a deflection off a Spokane defender, but goalkeeper Garrett Brickey was able to deflect the ball wide, just a few inches in front of a lunging Ramsey. Then in the 28th minute would be one of the most spectacular goals ever from a player in Timbers green, as a cross was deflected out to Richards near the penalty spot, who went head over heels in a full bicycle kick into the upper left corner, and the Timbers had a 2-0 lead. Six minutes later, the Timbers widened their lead when Freddie Braun played the ball to Ramsey, who turned on the ball 8 yards out from the post, and blasted a low shot off the near post and into the net to give the Timbers a 3-0 lead. Three minutes later, Richards nearly had his hat trick as he made a deep run down the right side, but a nice kick save from Brickey kept the margin at three goals. Spokane nearly pulled a goal back before halftime when a free kick was headed by the Spiders' Zarchary Smith, but Gleeson was able to smother the shot keep the Spiders off the board. Then in first half stoppage time, Richards did get his hat track as Tracy Hasson played a diagonal ball to the top of the box, which Richards flicked on with a header past a charging Brickey, and the Timbers had a 4-0 lead at the break. It didn't take long for Richards to get his fourth, when just 30 seconds into the second half, the Timbers forward made a run down the right side, and blasted a shot that the Spokane keeper got his hands on, but could not keep out of the net, and the Timbers had widened the lead to five goals. The Spiders would have a few good chances around the 60th minute, with a bit of bad luck when a hard shot from Ten minutes later, the gap was widened to six goals when a shot from just outside the box by Tim Muravez actually hit the referee on the way to goal, then one minute later when Conor Baranski had a good look from 20 yards out, but his shot was right at Timbers substitute goalkeeper Steve Spangler and easily saved. In the 72nd minute, the Timbers opened the lead to six goals when Quinton Beasley played forward Ricky Dorrego through, and the Timbers forward, playing in his first match, calmly beat the Spokane keeper inside the left post, and the lead was 6-0. Three minutes later, the Timbers had their seventh when Ogunyemi hit a low shot from keeper's right that seemed to be at a difficult angle, but Brickey was only able to slow the shot, and not stop it, and it barely slipped inside the right post, but the Timbers had opened their lead up to 7-0. And it would only take two minutes for the Timbers to score again, this time when Roberto Farfan fought hard to get the ball to the endline, then made a soft cross to an open Dorrego, who finished easily to give the Timbers an 8-0 lead. In the 90th minute, the Timbers would finish the scoring when Braun made a solo run down the middle, and his blast from 25 yards out was into the upper left 90, and seconds later the referee mercifully ended the match with no stoppage time, and the Timbers U-23's had their largest win in their history, 9-0 over the Spiders. Jake Gleeson and Steve Spangler combined for four saves and the shutout, while Garrett Brickey recorded one save for the Spiders.
