Going back into the regular season, four of the last Thunder Bay Chill matches have ended in the same 2-1 score. But the last two, with the Chill on the winning end of both, have vaulted the Chill into the PDL Championship for the second time in three years. The latest 2-1 result was a come-from behind victory over the Baton Rouge Capitals in the PDL Semifinals in Portland, Oregon, with Julius Abegar and Nolan Intermoia scoring for Thunder Bay, and Chris Williams getting the lone Baton Rouge goal.

The first good chance for either team would come in the 10th minute, when Baton Rouge's Brandon Chagnard took a chance at a long shot, with his 30 yard blast going a few yards wide right. One minute later it was Thunder Bay's Julius Abegar taking a chance on a 20 yard blast, which was fumbled by Baton Rouge Capitals goalkeeper Alessandro Salvatore, but he was able to recover the ball before Thunder Bay could jump on the rebound. Four minutes later, Baton Rouge's Mark Anderson had another good look from 20 yards out, but his bouncing shot was easily covered by Chill goalkeeper Stephen Paterson.

In the 30th minute, Thunder Bay had a great chance to take the lead when Brandon Zwartzendruber, the league's leading scorer, made a deep run down the left shot, and his low diagonal shot forcing a diving save by Salvatore to tip the ball wide. Just before the half, Baton Rouge had a good chance to take the lead when a cross from Tom Settle found the head of Ben Callon, with the Thunder Bay goalkeeper slightly off his line, but the header was wide right, and the teams would go into the locker room tied at 0-0.

The first good chance of the half would come in the 59th minute, when Thunder Bay's Nolan Intermoia made a nice turn at the top of the box, but his shot would slip just wide left. Six minutes later, it was the Chill's Zwartzendruber with another good turn, this time from 20 yards out, but his short-hopped shot was smothered by Salvatore.

In the 71st minute, the Chill continued their second half attack when Gustavo Oliveira's header slipped inches past the right post. But on their first good chance of the half in the 75th minute, Baton Rouge would find the net when off a corner kick by Settle, Chris Williams' header at the near post was on target and into the net, and against the run of play, the Capitals had a 1-0 lead.

But the lead would only last three minutes, when in the 78th minute, Abegar was able to find space at the top of the Capitals box, and his shot was just inside the right post and past Salvatore, and the match was once again level at 1-1.

But within two minutes, the Canadian side would strike again, with Intermoia making a run down the left side, and hitting a hard diagonal shot from 10 yards out that beat Salvatore inside the near post, and in the space of six minutes, a 1-0 Baton Rouge lead was now a 2-1 Thunder Bay lead.

The Chill were able to keep a large amount of possession for the rest of the match to keep the Capitals from seriously threatening to draw level again, and held on for the 2-1 lead that sends them back into the finals, looking to repeat their winning of the 2008 PDL Championship on the road, having beat Loredo on their home pitch to win the title.

Stephen Patterson was credited with one save in the winning effort, while Alessandro Salvatore had four saves for the Capitals.
