Timbers rookie forward Bryan Jordan scored twice, guest player Miguel Guante added a goal, as did Lawrence Olum as the Timbers used the two goals in two minutes by Jordan to take a lead they never gave up in a 4-1 season-ending win over Major League Soccer's Toronto FC in front of 6,614 at Portland's PGE Park. Guest player Roger Levesque had two assists, while Chris Pozniak had the lone Toronto goal.

It was a beautiful sunny day in Portland for late October, as the Timbers played their first match in five weeks, since losing the United Soccer League semifinals in series penalties to Atlanta. Fifteen Timbers players from the 2007 roster were on-hand, eight of them starting along with guest players Roger Levesque and Kenji Treschuk from Seattle, and Miguel Guante from Miami FC.

But it was visiting Toronto who had the first good scoring chance ,when in just the third minute, a nice give-and-go between Chris Pozniak and Colin Samuel had Pozniak in alone on Timbers goalkeeper Josh Wicks, but Pozniak's low shot was smothered by Wicks to end the threat. The next good scoring chance would be in the 12th minute, when Portland's Tom Poltl chipped a pass to forward Jaime Ambriz near the Toronto penalty spot, but he was unable to turn on the ball and the ball would be cleared by the Toronto defense.

Two minutes later, the Timbers would have a great chance to take an early lead when a nice series of passes from Levesque, to Andrew Gregor, to a streaking Guante, who played a pass across the box to Poltl, but the Timbers midfielder and Toronto goalkeeper Kenny Stamatopoulos would get to the ball at the same time, and Poltl's attempt to stab at the ball from eight yards out was wide to the right.

Ambriz would leave the game in the 17th minute with an injured ankle, and it would take very little time for his replacement Bryan Jordan to make an impact.

Less than two minutes after entering the game, Jordan would put the Timbers in the lead when Levesque's chip into his run put Jordan in alone on Stamatopoulos, and Jordan chipped the Toronto keeper and the ball slipped just under the crossbar and into the net to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead.

The Timbers fans had not even finished celebrating yet when Jordan would repeat the feat, in an almost identical fashion when Guante played Jordan into the box, this time angled to the keeper's right, but when Stamatopoulos started coming off his line, Jordan chipped the Toronto keeper again, and within a matter of less than a minute, the match had gone from a 0-0 draw to 2-0 Timbers.

Five minutes later, Toronto would pull back a goal when US National Team member Maurice Edu slipped through the Timbers defense and blasted a hard shot from 15 yards out that was stopped on a reaction save by Wicks, but the rebound stayed in-bounds and was blasted just under the crossbar by Pozniak from a tight angle to Wicks' left, and Toronto had pulled within 2-1. It was the first goal allowed at PGE Park in any match since July 28 vs. Preston North End, a span of 504 minutes.

Both teams tightened up their play for much of the rest of the half, with neither team getting the chance to push forward in numbers, but a mistake just before the half would double the lead for the home side. Poltl would play a ball from midfield wide to the left side to Guante, sprinting down the left side to catch up with the ball on the quick PGE Park NexTurf, with Stamatopoulos charging out of the box to clear the pass. The Toronto keeper was beaten to the ball by Guante, who tapped the ball wide past the charging keeper, then slotted home the ball from a tight angle into the open net, and the Timbers had taken a 3-1 lead, which is where the game would stand at the half.

Both teams tightened their defenses during halftime, with the wide open play of the first half changing to play that rarely left the midfield for much of the second half. The first good scoring chance of the second half would be in the 57th minute when a free kick from Toronto's Carl Robinson curled towards the far post, and may or may not have gone wide or off the left post, but Wicks would negate the doubt by knocking the ball wide on a full-stretch dive to his right.

The Timbers nearly scored on the counterattack after that play, when Jordan made a run down the right side, passing to an overlapping Gregor, whose return pass to Jordan caused a collision between the Timbers striker and two Toronto defenders as he charged to the near post, with the shot going just wide right from only a few yards out.

In the 63rd minute, a Toronto mistake nearly gifted the Timbers a fourth goal when a high free kick by Portland's Gregor was dropped by the Toronto keeper near the feet of Levesque, but the Stamatopoulos was able to collect the ball before the Timbers could get a foot on the loose ball.

In the 77th minute, the Timbers would widen their lead to three goals when a throw-in from Portland's Garrett Marcum, would be flicked on with a header from Lee Morrison, then a header from Levesque, to the feet of Lawrence Olum, who pulled Stamatopoulos wide off his line, before slotting the ball just behind him and into the net to give the Timbers a 4-1 lead.

Ten minutes later, Toronto would have their best scoring chance of the second half when Pozniak's blast from 20 yards out appeared headed just under the bar, but was tipped over the crossbar by Wicks.

Just before stoppage time, the Timbers nearly made it five goals when Olum nutmegged Toronto defender Andrew Boyens near the edge of the Toronto box, then slotted a low cross that nearly rebounded into the goal off the back of Levesque's legs, but a point-blank save on a shot by Jordan by Stamatopoulos was needed to keep the Timbers from getting on the board again.

Josh Wicks had four saves for the win, while Kenny Stamatopoulos had two saves for the visitors. With the win, the Timbers finish the 2007 season undefeated in all matches at home (12 wins, 0 losses, 7 draws).
